The openModeller GUI will provide an environment where non-technical computer users can easily:
- Retrieve locality data from GBIF and / or DiGIR
- Preprocess locality data in order to remove data of poor quality using automated and semi-automated procedures
- Preprocess environmental data to compute surrogate variables e.g. mean rainfall in coolest month
- Construct an experiment consisting of multiple models using a user selectable range of species locality data, environmental datasets and model algorithms such as GARP, Bioclim, CSM
- Provide seamless access to environmental data
- Postprocess the results of an experiment to produce hotspot maps and other aggregate results
In addition the openModeller GUI initiative will aim to achieve the following technical goals:
- to be cross platform, with particular attention to support for Gnu/Linux, Mac OSX, Microsoft Windows
- to integrate with GIS applications in the form of a plugin for QGIS and terraview
- to be available as a stand alone application
- to provide a pleasing task based user interface
